The Antidote to Oppression

What has supported me to face and heal from overwhelm in the face of injustice?

Permission to express my feelings with people who, just like me, want to be seen, listened to, and valued just as we are.

There is something powerful about healing in community.

As you join with others you have a chance to both listen and get listened to. This simple yet radical exchange of attention not only breaks isolation, it makes it hard to internalize that what is happening is personal.

How can it be about you when you hear so many similarities from people who have such different lived experiences from you? How can it be about you as you recognize how it’s happening on a systemic scale?

When we’ve been hurt systemically, the antidote is healing systemically, in community.

The hurts and your resulting feelings are not about you, they are nevertheless impacting you. While oppression is not personal, the effects are. You deserve a place to show and share about these impacts, impacts that are shared with others just like the healing.

Through the emotional healing practice of Constructivist Listening, everyone gets a confidential turn to be truly heard. It’s remarkable how little we’ve been listened to without interruption, judgment, analysis, or being given advice.

When was the last time you were listened to like this? If ever? What was it like? Or what could you imagine it would be like?
